This street, formerly known as Fourth Avenue, was (and is) one of New York's primary traffic thoroughfares. For many

Toy Heart with Tom Power (A Podcast About Bluegrass)

Tom Power

Alison Krauss

We could hardly think of a better guest with whom we’d conclude our second season of Toy Heart than 27-time Grammy Award winner, Alison Krauss. Arguably the most prominent bluegrass musician in the genre’s nearly one hundred year history – certainly the most well-known in her own generation – host Tom Power’s laughter-filled conversation with Krauss weaves through her childhood and upbringing, from her grandparents immigrating to Chicago (then her parents to Champaign, Illinois) and Alison's first fiddle contests all the way to her first Grammy win as a young adult. In a rare podcast interview, Krauss is funny, charming, and open, her candor painting a picture of the bluegrass community's lifelong support and the winding journey that has brought her to the present, as one of the most recognizable voices and musicians in American roots music. From her earliest hits like “Steel Rails” and “Every Time You Say Goodbye” to collaborating with Robert Plant, Jam

Beyond Riesling: The Secrets of Grapevine Breeding

In this episode with Kai Voss-Fels we dive into the complex world of grapevine breeding. Discover the unique challenges of breeding grafted crops. Enhancing genetic gain becomes multifaceted due to the fact that grapevines consist of two genetically distinct parts, the scion (upper) and rootstock (lower). Our discussion centers on addressing challenges such as water limitation, and drought stress for the lower section, while simultaneously focusing on improving sustainability by introgression of resistances in the uppper part. Moreover, we explore the ACGG (Accelerating Crop Genetic Gain) program, an international research initiative funded by the DFG in Germany, aimed at training PhD students and postdocs to tackle different questions with relevance to speeding up the varietal development process.
Kai Voss-Fels is Professor of Grapevine Breeding at Geisenheim University where he leads a team of researchers, students an

166: Series Finale

The time has come for us at the 'Rotten Tomatoes is Wrong' podcast family to say, "so long, farewell."When this podcast premiered in September of 2020, we wanted to shed a light on some of the films that may have been maligned by critics at the time. We wanted to cover the movies that, after watching them, made us think, "That was awesome!" or "That was such a good movie!" only to see that said film had a Rotten rating on the Tomatometer.Inspired by our book, Rotten Movies We Love, we set out to defend audience favorites and cult classics such as 'Sister Act 2,' 'Hocus Pocus,' and 'The Mummy.'After four years of fighting the good fight, Mark and Jacqueline are joined by Producers Lucy Bruckner and Brian Perez, and Mr. "Two Minutes with Tim" himself, Tim Ryan, to look back at some of their favorite moments and guests over the years, talk about their favorite films

The Department of Justice Whistleblower Awards Program is a recent development that has prompted considerable discussion due to its possible implications and the potential range of awards. The program, which is designed to protect whistleblowers, raises a number of complex issues, particularly for compliance officers. According to Tom, the program is aligned with those from other regulatory bodies, like the SEC, and is not necessarily groundbreaking. H

01: JK & Bempah

For the first episode of No Tags, Chal and Tom meet JK & Bempah, hosts of NTS's go-to rap show and true scholars of street music. Early champions of everyone from Pop Smoke to Jim Legxacy, their weekly radio show is a must for anyone with even a passing interest in rap music from either side of the Atlantic. We spoke about their story so far, the Met Police’s treatment of drill artists, whether Central Cee can go all the way, the lack of breakout stars in 2023 and something called The Theory of Him, which you’ll just have to let them explain. Thanks for listening to No Tags.
