Muppet domination continues with a hilarious new movie from Walt Disney Studios. While I did find "The Muppets" to be a fun, enjoyable family film, I have to say that as a nostalgic fan of the Muppets, there were some disappointing aspects to it. The story follows brothers Gary (Jason Segal) and Walter, along with Gary's girlfriend Mary (Amy Adams), who learn of a secret plot where Tex Richman; an incredibly rich oil-buisnessman, tries to tear down the abandoned Muppet Theater. Walter, the biggest Muppet fan around, tries to get the whole Muppet gang back together to remind the world how hilarious and heart-warming they are. What made this film; at least in my opinion, one of the weakest of the Muppet films, was the lack of cleverness in the humor. The Muppets have always been known to call themselves out in their films, and they do so again here. The only problem with that is they do it WAY too much. Just because you call yourself out on a bad joke, doesn't make it automatically funny. Another major problem with this is all the celebrity appearances. Again, the Muppet series is not new to this; but my point is, in the previous films, the guest stars actually looked like they were enjoying being in a Muppet film. In here, they all had their eyes half-closed and didn't bother looking excited (at least until the musical number during the credits). But there is a lot of stuff that this film does right. The musical numbers were very catchy and fun and the first and last thirty minutes were very funny. Chris Cooper gives the best performance as the greedy oil-man, especially during a scene where he raps, which was actually way more funny than I expected. Also, I did find the ending to be pretty emotional and touching. So all in all, I did have tons of fun watching this as a family film. As a Muppet film, I honestly think that it is the second weakest in the series (behind "Muppets from Space"). But still, it's a clean, fun film that both kids and adults will have a good time watching. Thumbs Up! "Is this movie in 3-D?" - Statler "Nope! This piece of nostalgia brings back memories to me of Kermit, Fozzie, Miss Piggy etc. I did enjoy the introduction of Walter (The Muppets biggest fan). In my opinion, this is truly the best work I have seen by the Muppets in quite a while.

When I first heard the announcement that Disney would be releasing a brand new "Muppets" movie, I could hardly contain my excitement. As a kid, I grew up watching nearly everything associated with Jim Henson's lovable creations ("The Muppet Show", "The Muppet Movie", "The Muppet Babies", you name it), so like any other longtime fan of the Muppets, I had to see their latest big screen adventure for myself on opening day. Needless to say, I was far from disappointed. The film introduces us to Walter, the "world's biggest Muppets fan", as he and his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) travel to Los Angeles from Smalltown, USA. While there, they discover the nefarious plan of an evil oilman (Chris Cooper) to raze the old Muppet theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath it. In order to stage the "greatest Muppet telethon ever" and raise $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Gary and Mary must reunite Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and the rest of the gang, who've all gone their separate ways. While the story may not be entirely original, it's hardly an issue thanks to how it's brilliantly told. It effortlessly and successfully blends wised-up, self-reflective humor with old-fashioned let's-put-on-a-show pizazz. Not to mention all the characters are easily likable and hilariously witty, the out-of-nowhere show tunes are charmingly nostalgic and undeniably catchy, and most of the random celebrity cameos (from Jack Black to Zach Galifianakis to Jim Parsons) are absolutely hysterical, even though some of them admittedly feel out of place at times. Perhaps what I found most refreshing about this movie was the fact that unlike many other family films, it didn't have to try so hard to charm and entertain its audience, and it's easy to see why. The Muppets have always had a special brand of comedy that's unflinchingly honest, yet lighthearted enough to appeal to moviegoers of any age. Watching this flick for the first time (yes, I saw it more than once) practically made me feel like a kid again. With its well-executed performances, smartly written script, and perennially upbeat music, it was a treat from beginning to end. All in all, "The Muppets" is, in my opinion, the best movie Kermit and his pals have starred in since their big screen debut back in 1979. Clever, engaging and heartfelt, it's the kind of fun-filled, family-friendly film you'll wanna watch again and again! At the very least, it's definitely worth renting.

I am 27 years old and I went and saw this movie 3 times in theatres!! I love the muppets and Jason Segel so mixed together it was fantastic!! Very funny and lots of old school humor!
