Mediocre

Very mediocre at best. Could have been much better. Not well written and acting was subpar. The only thing that saved this movie from utter disaster and disappointment is the WWII setting.

Great Movie

I actually disagreed with the critics on this movie. Although this may not be the “movie of the year” or have the best breakout performance of the year, the plot was riveting, and the actors did a great job. The history of it was pretty cool, and I don’t understand what is not to love. Lets be honest here, it is February, and now is the “dumping ground” for all of the non-oscar movies. This being said, this movie is definitely worth watching!

So badly written, great actors couldn’t save it.

This movie really could have been awesome: It was sharing a great piece of history that deserves to be recognized and remembered and told, and it had an awesome cast. I sat in the theater and kept waiting for it to get better. It didn’t. The screenplay is just so badly written. There’s no build-up of the characters. One character dies and you really don’t care — they haven’t fleshed him or any other character out enough to make you fall in love with him. They haven’t built up the stakes of the mission or the importance of certain pieces enough. They don’t connect relationships and plot together. There’s no building of suspense, and there really could have been. This should have been an easy script to write! They did such a poor job, I walked out about 2/3 through the movie.

Got It Right

This is a fun movie everyone could see even though it is about serious, true events. It makes history and art available in fun-size form. I saw this movie on a dreary day with a diverse group (age, gender, etc.) and everyone came away smiling, laughing while quoting funny lines, more educated about the art of war so-to-speak, and glad we had seen it. Entertaining and informative, with a sweet surprise at the end.

Loved it

All 3 of us loved it - it isn’t a great movie on the scale of Lincoln or Shindler’s List but it gives a tight perspective of one small story inside a war that changed the world. The scenes of burning art are gut-wrenching. Balaban and Murray are brilliant together playing off each other for moments of needed relief countering with a gift that Balaban gives Murray that is beyond measure. Hugh Bonneville was fantastic. I can’t wait until it comes out on digital.
