The Hill (2023)
The Hill is an inspiring, true story of baseball phenomenon Rickey Hill (Colin Ford). The son of a small-town traveling pastor (Dennis Quaid), Rickey shows an extraordinary talent for baseball despite being burdened by leg braces from a degenerative spinal disease. Driven by his faith and love of the sport, he continues to play against his father's wishes. But when a scout for the major league (Scott Glenn) arrives, he must overcome his worsening condition and the division it causes in his family in order to fulfill his dream of playing professional baseball.

I’ll start off with the negative elephant in the room. I hate to say it, but even with the movie embellishments, the real life story wasn’t that impressive or something you would even expect a movie to be made about. Ricky Hill doesn’t even have a Wikipedia article written about him, yet he has a major movie about his life now, which by itself seems relatively unusual to me. Other than that, this movie wasn’t that bad. Despite not believing in a god, I still found the movie positive and worth a watch. Some parts even made me emotional a little bit. My dad was a pastor so I could relate to a lot of it despite not being Christian, and despite the movie being filled with religious ideology, it never felt like propaganda and I don’t think it was ever over-the-top preachy. Overall, it was better than I expected.
