The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is the first film in Columbia Pictures' three-picture adaptation of Stieg Larsson's literary blockbuster The Millennium Trilogy. Directed by David Fincher and starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, the film is based on the first novel in the trilogy, which altogether have sold 50 million copies in 46 countries and become a worldwide phenomenon. The screenplay is by Steven Zaillian.

Hollywood has trouble with adult @spike91
I have the origin al videos and enjoy them a great deal and had heard good things about the American effort. It is, in general, a superior movie to most of the simple formulaic productions offered to the American public as entertainment. However how they soften this character and bring in familial aspects as a way to make the story more acceptable or marketable to a US public is telling in their anticipation that the public can not easily deal with complex adult relationships, nor do they feel that the public can tolerate a strong and aggressive female character that has developed her strength through her struggle. In the original the initial love scene makes sense between Lisbeth and Bloomkvist, leaves him confused and taken and is a poignant statement of her being safe enough with him but not safe enough to be taken by him or for mutual surrender. The american version can not help but softening the female and has her comfortable with Bloomkvist removing her from control and placing her underneath him. The complexity is lost and the result is unbelievable in view of her history. She needs control to feel safe with a man, even one as honorable as Bloomkvist (played more convincingly by Michale Nyqvist who offers us a more vulnerable, moral and complex character). I think that the american film producers underestimate the capacity of their audience to accept an adult perspective and this lack of faith produces a film that comes obliquely at the issues softening the blow but also removing the depth of the challenge of the violence that powerful men can inflict upon the vulnerable of society. Still a good film but not as good as the original.

I have read the book, seen the Swedish version and I still really enjoyed Fincher's Dragon. I feel that the original Swedish film was better still, Fincher has done some fine work here. I plan on owning both versions. The Millennium Trilogy is fantastic and this stays true to the feeling of the books. Reznor has crafted an excellent score for this film and coupled with Finchers cinematic talents, this is a win. Highly recommended.

Being a fan of the books and the Swedish film, i knew i had to see this. And I must say, this is the best film of 2011. The pacing is the best I have ever seen in a movie; this film is two and a half hours long yet never gets boring. The cinematography is great, the direction is great, and obviously the story is a wonder. The real star at the end of this film though is Rooney Mara. Her performance is the best I've seen in a long time. Overall, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is a must-see for everyone. Though at times disturbing, David Fincher (The Social Network) directs scenes at ease and makes the best of the story written by the late Steig Larsson. While of course some scenes in the novel are cut out due to the overwhemling length, the script is extremely well written and gets to all the major points in the novel. Again, please see this film. You will be doing yourself a huge favor.

I think that this movie was much better in it's original cultural linguistic expression. American version just does not do it justice.
