The Creator
Amidst a future war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence, Joshua (John David Washington), a hardened ex-special forces agent grieving the disappearance of his wife (Gemma Chan), is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war — and humankind. Joshua and his team of elite operatives journey across enemy lines into the dark heart of AI-occupied territory, only to discover the world-ending weapon he’s been instructed to destroy is an AI in the form of a young child, in this epic sci-fi action thriller directed by Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) from a screenplay by Edwards and Chris Weitz.
The Creator @Noah Pfister
A super flawed sci-fi that is filled with a lot of tropes that we have seen before in countless other films. And yet, here, it somehow manages to stay equally engaging, filled with pretty cool characters as well as lore that is even more fascinating than the story itself. This movie is impeccable action sequences and some truly gutting moments that make you question your own humanity. The little things and attention to detail is why you must see it because it is an intriguing world. Go see it, even if it’s just for a rent; I promise you, you will not be disappointed by this film. But do temper your expectations. It’s not perfect and it does also feel like a film with a lot taken out of it. Here’s hoping for some special edition or director’s cut down the line. But watch it, it’s well worth your time.
Disappointing @The black rabbi
Stunning visuals, lame writing
What a disappointment @Synchr0nicity
Heavy on visuals, thin on plot, and a message that boils down to “America BAD!” I really like Gareth Edwards’ other films, but this was just hard to stomach. It ripped off a lot of Rogue One plot beats. It’s impossible to overlook how every white person in the film was a bad guy, and the only good American was black. Every other “good guy” was Asian. I’m amazed this wasn’t produced by a Chinese film company. Before rolling your eyes, imagine if someone made a film today where every bad guy was black and all the good guys were white; how much bloody murder would you be screaming then? This kind of severe one-sided nonsense needs to stop, because it’s destroying our society and playing into the hands of its enemies.
