The Baxter

Director: Michael Showalter
Release Date:

In every romantic comedy there's always that scene at the end where the leading man barges through the chapel doors just as the leading lady is about to marry the Wrong Guy. This movie is about the guy left at the altar. The wrong guy. That guy is called the Baxter. The Baxter is the kind of guy you "settle" for because you can't be with the one you really love. And no one's ever been more of a Baxter than tax accountant Elliot Sherman (Michael Showalter). Nice but safe, Elliot has been left at the proverbial 'altar' more times than once. From high school to college to business school, Elliot always finds himself on the losing end of the love triangle. really funny

got to recognize I felt portrayed several times; the story is not too far from reality, everyone gets dumped at least once in life for not being resolute enough. This is about second chances. The happy ending isn't necessary, although fits. Both girls play their typical character greatly and the guy is really funny. This movie will cheer you up from its beginning

pretty damn funny

Anything with David Wain, Michael Ian Black, and Michael Showalter is hilarious to me. A definite plus that Justin Theroux is in this flick as well. If you like The State, youll enjoy this for sure.

A modest film with a crater

The film might have been an amusing slice of life but there is a problem. Michael Showalter is the screenwriter, director and lead actor for this film. I am not familiar with Michael Showalter's work. After viewing this film, I have reason to avoid any future endeavors. The supporting cast for this film is first-rate. Elizabeth Banks tries mightily with a poorly conceived character. Paul Rudd has a small role. And Michelle Williams is thoroughly engaging. However, when good actors like Shue and Wiliams are on the screen, it demonstrates what a huge crater is left by Showalter's presence on the film. Watch if you need sleep.

Great Find

I came across this movie not know at all what it was or what it was about. I loved it immediatly. Great humor, both obvious and subtle. Great for a date or just to relax to! Highly recommended!

A Great Date Film

This is a film for those of us who feel out of place in our daily existence. Heartwarming, and uplifting but never sappy. This is a great date movie.
