Separation

Director: William Brent Bell
Release Date:

Eight-year-old Jenny (Violet McGraw, The Haunting of Hill House) leads a lonely but imaginative life, surrounded by puppets based on the works of her artist father (Rupert Friend, Homeland). But when her mother (Mamie Gummer, True Detective) is tragically killed in a hit-and-run and her grandfather (Brian Cox, Succession) sues for custody, the puppets and other frightening characters suddenly start coming to life. At first, Jenny is the only person who believes they're real, putting everyone's lives in danger.

Not bad

I imagine the film’s low rating is due to the special effects because the effects weren’t up to par with what I’d expect from a film released in 2021, however, on a positive nötė, the lead actor is a favorite of mine﹠I found the story very interesting. I watched Separation with my 14-year-old son﹠some parts were creepy﹠scary but overall we enjoyed the movie more than we didn’t.

Could have been good

The actors are good, the basic story is decent… but the script is absolutely terrible, veering into pointless and never-explained nonsense, and all the scares/suspenseful moments are boring and predictable. Wait until it’s streaming for free somewhere.

Great work

I love that

I enjoyed it

For a movie I knew nothing about, I thought it was decent and the ghost/creature/monster things were pretty creepy.
