There's a lot of discussion on this movie. Some hate it...some love it....others are just not sure of it. I am the biggest Pirates fan out there. Without Orlando, Keira, and the other original cast, Rob Marshall had a lot riding on him. He gave it his best, and he deserves a pat on the back for it. The movie itself is not that bad. There is a lot more humor. Ian McShane did a fantastic job, probably the best Blackbeard you will ever see. Penelope Cruz played a wonderful Angelica. Johnny Depp is the same old Jack Sparrow, that will never change. The best sword fighting is seen in this movie. It is truly amazing. I was a little disappointed. Just a little. The plot was too predictable, unlike the other Pirates moves. The idea of the mermaids was great, but the zombies? I just wish they would have put more emphasis on them. Because as they are now in the story, they're pretty much useless. Nothing special. All in all, if you are a huge Pirates fan like myself, you should see this movie. There is not a guarantee that you will fall in love with it, or absolutely hate it. It is all on preference. And honestly, I liked it. FUN FACT: Did you know....they've already signed on for a 5th and 6th Pirates? Lets watch and wait to see how it turns out...maybe Rob Marshall will have learned a few tips by then.

"On Stranger Tides", while better than "At World's End" as far as storytelling goes, doesn't uphold the epic feel of the last three "Pirates" films, but that doesn't make it a bad addition to the series. The story begins two years after the events of the last movie, with Jack Sparrow in search of the mystical Fountain of Youth. After rescuing his best friend Mr. Gibbs (Kevin McNally) from prison, Jack learns that an old flame of his, Angelica (Penelope Cruz), is assemling a crew for the "Queen Anne's Revenge", captained by Blackbeard (Ian McShane), the pirate all pirates fear. What follows is a three-way race between Jack Sparrow, a Spanish Warfleet, and his old nemisis Barbosa (Geoffrey Rush), who all seek the fountain for their own purposes. The acting in here is great as always. Probably the main reason these movies are so successful is because it can create interesting characters that you can care for. Johnny Depp does it again as the crazy Jack Sparrow, while Penelope Cruz and Ian McShane did a whole lot better of a job than I anticipated. Geoffrey Rush and Kevin McNally also do great as their returning characters. The story, while more put together and understandable than the last two films, was probably the biggest weak-point of the movie. There were a lot of magical items in this (voodoo dolls, magical swords, bottled ships) that were given no real explanation for where they came from or how they worked. There's also no real surprises or twists like in "At World's End", but it still wasn't that bad, and the acting manages to keep you into it, not to mention a fantastic score by Hans Zimmer. So overall, this was better than "Dead Man's Chest" and "At World's End" script-wise, but the lack of twists and big action sequences left something for the fans to be desired. Still, that doesn't mean that you should miss out on this movie. As it stands, it's tons of fun for the whole family and gives fans more Jack Sparrow. Thumbs up. ANOTHER THRILLING CHAPTER IN THE "PIRATES" SAGA! @Broken Headphones
The "Pirates of the Caribbean" saga has always been a truly one-of-a-kind film series. It not only helped transform the classic Disney park attraction into a staple of summer blockbuster entertainment, but it also made the franchise's main protagonist, Captain Jack Sparrow (played by the one-and-only Johnny Depp) one of the most beloved fictional cinematic characters of all time. When I first found out that an unexpected fourth film would go into production without the appearances of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), I thought the flick would end up being a complete and utter disappointment. Nevertheless, I went to the theatre to see the movie and was surprisingly impressed. Johnny Depp, as expected, plays up his iconic role to the fullest extent, but this time, he's equally matched in wit and attitude with Angelica (Penélope Cruz), a worthy newcomer to the franchise. Together, on their journey to find the mythical Fountain of Youth, they come across fierce waters, vicious mermaids, and the infamous Captain Blackbeard (Ian McShane), a brilliant new villain who's as ferocious as he is menacing. If I had to nitpick, I would say that some of the action sequences seemed to come across as generic and unnecessary, plus two of the newest characters (Sam Claflin as Philip Swift the missionary and Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey as Syrena the mermaid) didn't have any believable chemistry together and just fell flat. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed myself the entire time I watched "On Stranger Tides". Overall, it's a swashbuckling adventure from beginning to end with superb performances, breathtaking cinematography, and unrelenting suspense. Honestly, it's as if the pirates never even left!

As an avid fan, I thought the movie was good but not great, Johnny Depp carried his character off excellently (what else can we expect from such a versatile, talented actor) but he needed stronger characters to support his fine job. The story line lacked the interesting relationships we had wth the other 3 movies. This may be the start of another chapter in the Pirates saga, and will need some building on the characters, but without Bloom and Knightley, the characters we love so much lack the background we have come to love.

This movie is one of the best of all time. As great as the original. I saw it in the theater and I was hooked the entire time. At worlds end and dead mans chest can't compare to on stranger tides. I loved it and I can't wait to buy the combo chest when it comes out
