Far better than expected

Definitely aimed more at a bit more mature and attentive audience than the more family friendly Eddie Murphy version. It a little too long as a feature film and but actually would have worked better as a multi part limited series event. That being said 12 and older viewers should still find much to enjoy. It has a very strong and heartfelt message about dealing with loss and finding love and family again. The effects are very strong and the antagonist hatbox ghost Crump makes for a memorable villain. There’s a real visual ambition to the set pieces and very high production values. What holds the movie together through its flaws and uneven pacing are the characters. It’s a quirky bunch but they have strong chemistry and they all appear to be having a good time filming their scenes. It results in a group of people we want to see persevere and stick together. It’s a shame it wasn’t a bit more focused, or expanded into a series where it could have fleshed out more backstory and explored more of the mysteries of the mansion. As it stands it features a long running time but a sometimes unfocused plot and a need of a few more thrills. It does have some legitimate laughs, a few good creepy moments and a good cast. It is far better than the extreme negative reviews posted here that are in need of a better sense of moderation.

Not Surprised

Glad I didn’t take the entire family to see this. Would have been even more money wasted.

D&I

It can officially be nominated for best picture of the year at the academy awards, because of it’s diverse cast. That’s all that matters. That’s the important thing.

SOOOO BAD?

It’s literally so terrible. There are a couple parts that made me laugh, but it didn’t reach its full potential. The storyline COULD have been good, if carried out well. Which it wasn’t. I was kinda scratching my head the whole time. Don’t know why the reviews are so good.
