Set durring the great depression this is a fascinating story of a drifter (Channey) coming to a town and taking it by storm. A middle aged streetfighter stakes a temporary claim taking on all comers with the financial backing of a vice riden degenerate promoter (Speed) who puts everything on the line before every fight. Due to his gambling vice Speed is unabble to repay his loanshark backers is held hostage by one of Speeds boxing promoter rival (Gandil) who is obsessed with having the best streetfighter. Channey must decide whether to save Speed by fighting one last fight against a ringer brought in from Chicago but to do so he risks losing everything he has. Excellently choreographed fight scenes and Charles Bronsons best performance.

My favorite Charles Bronson movie

This is what got me to be a Charles Bronson fan. The story's pretty simple....a tough guy hired by a witty con-artist takes on other tough guys in street fights. I know I made it sound simple, but it's really better than I described it. Charles Bronson and James Coburn were at top form with this movie. If you love watching good fight movies or Charles Bronson films, then you will love this movie. I hope that Hollywood doesn't try to make a "remake" that buries this classic.

Great Movie

True and pure from the beginning!

Bronson @ his best!!! ;:^)

This is by far my favorite Charles Bronson film of all time!!! It's also pretty cool that it was made the year of my birth!! lol Mr. Bronson is also one of my Dads' favorite actors, and Bronson seems to be in the best shape of his life in this movie, and James Coburn as always is cool as a fan! I give it 2 thumbs up, and if I had more thumbs I would use them too. A Totally Awesome Movie!!!
