Damsels In Distress
Whit Stillman’s Damsels in Distress is a wonderfully off-beat comedy about a trio of beautiful girls set out to revolutionise life at a grungy American university. Led by the dynamic Violet (Greta Gerwig), principled Rose (Megalyn Echikunwoke) and sexy Heather (Carrie MacLemore), they welcome transfer student Lily (Analeigh Tipton) into their group which seeks to help severely depressed students through a programme of donuts and tap dancing. The girls become romantically entangled with a series of men, including smooth Charlie (Adam Brody), dreamboat Xavier (Hugo Becker) and the mad frat pack of Frank (Ryan Metcalf) and Thor (Billy Magnussen) - who threaten the girls’ friendship and sanity...
Starts quickly then stalls… but good. @PlanetMac
Very witty and quickly paced for the first 40+ minutes then just kind of coasts. The setting confused me. I almost thought this was set in the 1960's. Fantastic female ensemble and word play. If I hadn't known better, I may have thought it a Woody Allen movie. It's good and for $8 it was worth buying than renting. I'll watch it again.
DISJOINTED @I eat books
When I see a movie this bad, I get the slight urge to write the filmmaker and gently, in a nice way tell him/her that it is okay, they can stop making movies now. I would maybe help them find a job at a local bookstore or coffee shop and they could just lead a simple uneventful life.
Just awful.... @#1 Glee Fan
This movie was unbareable to watch. The actors are awful and its not funny at all.The whole entire movie was boring, not one good part. I would recommend not buying or even renting it.
Distinct Humour @mily014
I loved this movie! It does have its own distinct humour, but the characters were realistic and well developed. This is going to be the next cult film. The Sambola!
Damsels in Distress @bear believer
What a total waste of digital memory... A film that is trying to emulate older genres and has to resort to trying to copy old "Mickey Rooney" films and "Last Tango in Paris" without the sensuality, inventiveness or plot. Seriously avoid this film.
