This is NOT a comedy!!

Sad, tragic movie. great acting by both, julia roberts and meryl streep (did she win her ??th oscar for this performance?). well, the bottom line is.. it's depressing to realize once again that there actually are messed up families like in this movie and everyone who sees this movie and can not relate to it must only be thankful. i am.

Love Hate Relationships

People walk away with polarized opinions of this film. I find it painful in more ways than one... Mostly because it is relatable on some level. This film takes things to extremes and definitely lacks a happy ending, but the acting is powerful, the story complex and the character development is phenomenal. If you are a fan of great acting, go enjoy. Just know this is not a feel good movie. It's painful. It's unhappy and its hard... But it's powerful.

Shocked

This movie deserves a more positive review. Nowadays, most movies are too busy unless they are flawless like Avatar for example. Although, this movie replaces cgi with dialogue and "real" acting. It allows to understand that we are humans that go through similar life scenarios.

Thoroughly engaging

I haven’t seen a movie like this in a long time. A movie where dialog and plot are central to the story. Steep and Roberts are a force of nature when on the screen at the same time: powerfully real, no holds barred. The emotional impact of the story will stick with me for days. I only wonder why this was listed as a comedy.

Great character movie

I can understand this movie isn't for everyone but if you like great acting and a compelling script give it a try. And if you think you have a screwed up relative or family skeletons, you have nothing on this film family. It covers the gambit of dysfunctional family drama and keeps you guessing on what will come out next. You'll either appreciate the family you have or it will remind you of the relatives you try to forget.
