The Hills Have Eyes

Director: Wes Craven
Release Date:

Horror master Wes Craven achieved critical and commercial success with the likes of Scream and A Nightmare on Elm Street - but for many genre fans, the director's seminal effort The Hills Have Eyes remains his masterpiece. Taking a detour whilst on route to Los Angeles, the Carter family run into trouble when their camper van breaks down in the middle of the desert. Stranded, the family find themselves at the mercy of a group of monstrous cannibals lurking in the surrounding hills. With their lives under threat, the Carters are forced to fight back by any means necessary.

The hills are alive... with terror!

The Hills Have Eyes, which was only Wes Craven’s second movie, didn’t strike me as being as brutal as The Last House on the Left, but it’s still quite a terrifying and unrelenting film! Craven really exposes just how horrifying the circumstances can be that will plunge an ordinary family into a desperate, nightmarish fight for survival. I’m not a fan of every horror movie that Wes Craven directed, but I’m a fan because I’ve seen many of them that I really like. The Hills Have Eyes happens to be one of my favorites! As a huge horror fan, I love celebrating the Halloween season by watching lots of horror movies, especially my favorites! If you’re the same kind of person, I highly recommend this classic shocker! If you’ve never seen it, I offer this warning: It could be one of the most terrifying movies you watch all season!????

Wes Craven’s BEST film!!!

The Hills Have Eyes (1977) is my personal favorite Wes Craven film with a riveting plot that will keep you constantly jumping out of your seat hoping that the unfortunate newcomers to this cannibalistic brother/sisterhood make it out alive. The entertainment value and suspense is brilliantly put into the film throughout, never holding back. Like Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979), this film managed to deliver a feeling of isolationism amongst the characters portrayed in it, stranded in a deserted wasteland with no one alive besides the threatening force in sight. For a low budget film the acting is remarkable too and really gets you enthralled in the business of the family (protagonists) just trying to go on a vacation together. Veteran actress Dee Wallace debuted her career with this horror classic and I can see how. The audience really feels sympathetic for the dandy family who rather than a paradisal getaway will experience the most hellish night of their lives in the middle of nowhere. This film blows Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) out of the water by comparison, demolishing Scream (1996) until it’s turned to microscopic dust particles. Give this film a watch and truly engulf yourself in a phenomenal horror roller coaster ride of your life! You won’t regret it!
