Good but different

While a step down from the previous sequels, Rogue Mission does get points for trying some new things to freshen up this very long running franchise. There’s more humor this time around and more time spent developing the villains. In both cases the film is mostly successful. The setting is set primarily in middle America this time and it too gives the film a different feel from its predecessors. This last point is good and bad as the locations are not what you normally see in this more exotic setting franchise, it also betrays what was most likely a lower budget. A lot of the action is still effective and the characters are largely likable or in the case of the bad guys, fairly interesting. The premise is established well with a very dark tale of corruption with our heroes tracking down murderous human traffickers forcing women into online porn and cam girl sessions. The film ends with setting up the premise for the next film of the franchise and it suggests a very cool and larger adventure to come. Worth watching for fans of the films.
