Director: Jonas Åkerlund
Release Date:

Trapped in a seedy LA apartment, Franklin Franklin (Matt Lucas) has a dead landlord on the kitchen floor and is surrounded by eccentric neighbors: the stoner (Johnny Knoxville) and girlfriend (Rebel Wilson), the wanna-be stripper (Juno Temple) and the artist (James Caan). To add to his chaos, a drunk investigator (Billy Crystal) is questioning him about his landlord. But none of this fazes Franklin. He dreams of Switzerland, and waits each day for an envelope from his institutionalized brother (James Marsden). Then, one day the envelope doesn’t come and Franklin becomes unhinged. Little does he know...his crazy brother has the secret that will set him free.

A different and enjoyable kind of odd

This movie has a Napoleon Dynamite like setting, but with a darker side. I couldn't help to feel sorry for Franklin. And in the end, this movie had a good message. I did enjoy each character in the story. Knoxville did a great job and can act. I wish there was more refined adult humor in the slower parts. Regardless, something about a guy wanting to live in Switzerland with his horn is funny longer than it is funny larger.

Mad but Magic

One of the most interesting films I have seen in a long time. Kudos to all involved

Great movie

Great movie with fantastic character development. Odd, strange, dark are words that are used to describe this movie. I would also add thought provoking and poignant. Matt Lucas is awesome. I've been a big fan of his for many years. He was perfectly cast and nails it. James Caan is James Caan, what can you say. Billy Crystal does a superb job. I really liked Johnny Knoxville and his poignant acting. His scenes with Amanda Plummer were so real I almost cried. Yes, this is a comedy but a dark one. Plenty of laughs while your heart feels a bit saddened. This is not a slapstick comedy with old predictable jokes. Dark, with hidden meaning, by the end you will be uplifted and glad you watched it. This is highly original and is destined to be a cult classic for years to come. I highly recommend this movie.

is just ok

looks cheap, good cast, bad movie

Movie of the Year

This is definitely the movie of 2012. It had everything, a great cast, great acting, great script, comedy, drama, wackyness....how has this gone so overlooked??? It is such a joy to watch, I didn't look away from the screen until it was over, and usually I fall asleep on movies, it doesn't matter how good or bad they are, I just have a lot wrong with me physically, but this movie kept my attention, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Amazing! Matt you deserved an Oscar for this!!
