Pride and Prejudice (1940)
Oscar-winning adaption of Jane Austins comic classic about five husband-hunting sisters in 19th-century England. Oscar and Golden Globe-winner Greer Garson ("Mrs. Miniver," Madame Curie") stars in this vivid recreation of the Victorian era. Co-starring Oscar and Golden Globe-winners Laurence Olivier ("Hamlet," "Henry V") and Edmund Gwenn ("Miracle on 34th Street"), Oscar-nominee Edna May Oliver ("Little Women") and Maureen O'Sullivan ("Tarzan and His Mate").
A True Classic! @Betsy169
In spite of the liberties with the storyline (which the Jane Austen purists will detect right off), these characters (the main and supporting) are terrific- and funny. This is one of my all time favorites.
Can we get Firth and Ehle (1995)? @janeaustengirl
I know there are already two versions of P and P on iTunes, but, honestly, the version w/ Colin Firth as Darcy and Jennifer Ehle as Elizabeth is the best all-time! Could iTunes please please please start carrying it?!?!
One of the Best! @KJenda
Of course, this version does take liberties and strays from Jane Austen's classic in some ways. However, it doesn't seem to matter in the least--the characters still retain their charm, and the small changes actually work for the movie. I love the new version, but this old version is still my favorite.
the best are always the oldest! @MaggieKayJ
libertys aside this is the best P&P ever and will always be my fav. And Olivier is a dream boat he could propose to me anytime.
don't bother @lovejaneausten
Bleah. The late 1990s A&E miniseries, and the Keira Knightly film from a few years ago are much better
