Sense and Sensibility

This was an excellent movie, and very faithful to the original novle by Jane Austen. Emma Thompson is wonderful as Elinor, and really makes you forget that she is too old for the part. She also proved her writing skills with a brilliant, academy-award winning screenplay. Kate Winslet also gives a stunning performance as the wildly romantic and emotional younger sister, Marianne. The supporting cast is also very good, particularly Alan Rickman as Colonal Brandon. As a warning, I will say that, on the first veiwing, this film is very slow in the beginning and demands full attention throughout. That being said, this film is one you can watch over and over again and still enjoy. I deffinately recommend a purchase.

Sense and Sensibility

This is still my favorite movie of all time. You don't have to be a Jane Austen fan. Great story, very witty screenplay, beautiful cinematography, spectacular characters, beautiful costumes--I have watched it over a dozen times and still can't tear myself away. This movie has brought me tears of joy every single time I have experienced it--it never grows old.

A great classic!

Seriously, if you are a Jane Austen fan, I totally recommend this movie to you! Kate Winslet and Emma Thomson are amazing actresses in it and they will not disappointed you!

Essential for the Alan Rickman collector

I'd be hard pressed to choose a favorite Alan Rickman film, but as far as the "sexiest" Alan Rickman role, this wins hands-down (even though he doesn't so much as kiss the girl). Who else could gallop in on a beautiful black horse, wear those period clothes so well, and devastate viewers with those brooding eyes, that wavy hair, and THAT VOICE?! And for the record, Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, and Kate Winslet are terrific also. Look for Hugh Laurie in a small but remarkably House-like role!

Sense and Sensibility

An excellent reference for guidance in my own life's experiences. I can't express how grateful I am to Emma Thompson for such a beautiful screen play of Jane Austin's classic novel. The lush scenery, the quick and witty quips, and the melancholy music all played key roles in establishing the urgent, complicated, and sometimes sinister tones that make the love story so much more agonizing and beautiful. It took me a second viewing to fully comprehend the power behind the seemingly slow developing plot, which is by no means slow. I've seen it many many times since!
