Unbroken or to be broken

The book is better than the movie, but that is always the case. The ending should’ve captured more of his life after returning home, but still an inspirational movie nevertheless. Whenever you are down and feel like giving up, I recommend to everyone own this movie and find the joy in your life. So many people sacrificed so much for the life we have today. Nothing should ever be taken for granted. People should approach the end by having the time of their lives. It is not how many breathes we take in life... it is the moments that take our breath away that we should remember and share with loved ones. Stay #Unbroken

Read the book, forgo the movie

Politically correct Angela Jolie, an admitted atheists, totally missed the point of the story. It is just not surviving the depression and World War 2 that was the point of being unbroken. It was the subsequent Demons this man faced and how after all that, he was indeed unbroken. His faith saved him. A bitter pill for the left wing to accept. As a war movie it was average to a bit below average. Save yourself $15 and get the book or download the audible version. That is a better way to go than to buy this movies.

Failed to exceed expectations

I read the book and loved it. Can't say the same about the movie. They failed to capture the power of Zamperini's life. If I was not with people I would've walked out of the theater. Overall disappointment.

A fantastic book...

If this story interests you at all, read the book -- it's phenomenal. The movie just can't capture what really happened. Visually stunning, but no real emotional connections.

Very disappointing

I was very disappointed in what should have been, hands down, an Oscar contender. I cannot recommend this movie to anyone because the direction absolutely ruined this film, which misses the point of the book altogether. Laura Hildebrand's wonderful book immediately reaches the reader's heart as she connects Louie Zamperini's life story of growing up from a kid headed towards a life of crime to becoming a man who not only survived the most unbelievable odds but also how the human spirit can sustain anything, if wanted. Never during the two + hours does the viewer get to know the character, or his friends, family and comrades-in-arms. Maybe Ms. Jolie should have spent more time reading the book and trying to understand the emotional connect the book had with its readers than planning all her promotional interviews and short documentaries which focused only on her and how fortunate she was to have been chosen to direct the film. It's not about you, Angelina, it was about a remarkable life and humanity, and you missed it all.
