An initiative that brings together policy makers, young people and civil society to strengthen sexuality education and reproductive and sexual health services in eastern and southern Africa. By having adequate access to these services, young people are empowered to make their own decisions about their health, preventing HIV/AIDS and unexpected pregnancies.

Directrice éditoriale et chroniqueuse au Monde, Sylvie Kauffmann est diplômée de la Faculté de droit de l'Université d'Aix-Marseille, de l'IEP d'Aix-en-Provence, d'espagnol à l'Université de Deusto à Bilbao et du Centre de Formation des Journalistes de Paris.
Après avoir débuté à l'AFP en tant que correspondante à Londres, en Nouvelle-Calédonie, à Varsovie et à Moscou, elle a rejoint Le Monde en 1987 comme correspondante à Moscou. Il s'en suivit l'Europe centrale et orientale de 1988 à 1993 et les États-Unis, à Washington et New York, de 1996 à 2006. De retour à Paris, elle a été successivement directrice éditoriale, responsable des grands reporters, puis directrice adjointe de la rédaction du quotidien. Par la suite, elle est devenue grand reporter en Asie, à Singapour, puis a été rédactrice en chef du Monde entre 2010 et 2011.

There is no refuge in the lab, science needs to reach out
Sudip Parikh, CEO of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and Executive Publisher of the Science journals, talks to us about major trends in science and how they affect us all. He begins by saying that populism and polarisation are taking hold of science. Belonging to a group – be it political, faith-based or any other – becomes more important than the truth and scientific fact. Taking refuge in the laboratory and its rationality is no longer an option. Science needs to tailor its communication to the publics and, importantly, to step up its engagement with policy. That is not a zero-cost shift. Concrete incentives are needed not only to trigger the right reforms in our traditional structures of science and government, but also to counteract current incentives for active disinformation. And, more than ever, social sciences need to help us navigate the trends and understand the experiments run on glo
