Jerry Bilik

In 1947, a 13-year-old boy from New Rochelle, NY came to Interlochen's National Music Camp because he was entranced by a photo of a young female harpist in the camp's brochure.

Jerry Bilik didn't find the harpist that summer, but he did find a love of music that transformed his entire life.

He originally enrolled in music composition course because the classroom's windows had a clear view of the girls' tennis courts.

After hearing a performance of Mozart's Requiem that summer, Bilik fell in love with the power of music and decided to dedicate himself to it. He stopped looking out the windows during composition class and starting learning how to write music.

As a college student, Bilik served as the chief composer and arranger for the University of Michigan Marching Band.

Throughout his professional career, Bilik has parlayed his composition and arrangement skills into everything

Jeremy Lent | Ecological Civilization, Deep Transformation and the Web of Meaning

In this interview, Jeremy Lent starts by offering an overview of some key ideas he articulates in his book “The Web of Meaning: Integrating Science and Traditional Wisdom to Find Our Place in the Universe.” He emphasizes the importance of generating an alternative worldview based on the understanding of our deep interconnection, and the notion of flourishing, particularly flourishing as an integrated organism. On Ecological Civilization, he invites us to visualize how the world could look like if we changed the dominant underlying operating system of our current civilization from one of extraction and exploitation to one that seeks to set the conditions for all beings to flourish on a regenerative Earth. This means envisioning not just changing one aspect, but everything. He stresses that in order to get on the path to an ecological civilization, we can look at life itself and ecosystems and ap

COMMUNITY MANAGER VS. SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER : WHICH HIRE IS RIGHT FOR YOUR BUSINESS?

#socialmediamanager #communitymanager #business #marketing
Many of you are growing your team, and have figured out the importance of hiring the correct person for the correct job.
Hiring for the wrong position when it comes to a #communitymanageand/or #socialmediamanagercan be detrimental.
Hi, i’m cally, from the international institute of digital #marketing. Let’s break down both of these roles so you can make sure you hire right the first time.
Identifying the difference is as easy as answering one simple question:
Who is your [social media/community] manager talking to?
If you can’t define who your new hire is talking to, chances are that position is not well defined, and it should be fleshed out a little more.
#socialmediamanagers and #communitymanages both strive to provide a human element to a company’s online presence and can often use the same social

Episode 10: Ukraine and Russia's war through the prism of history

On 24 February 2022 Russia turned its military actions against Ukraine which were going on in Crimea and Eastern Ukraine since 2014 into a full-blown, total war. The language of the international media to describe the conflict is unstable: first, a Russian invasion; then, “Russian-Ukrainian war”, then “Russia’s war in Ukraine”, “Russia’s war against Ukraine”, “Ukraine’s war against Russia-backed forces” or a “fratricidal war”. In Russia itself, calling the war anything other than a mere “special operation” carries with it the risk of punishment with 10 years of prison colony. If there is a war, Russian officials say, it is with NATO and the US.
How is Ukrainian identity represented on the streets of Europe, and what are the political functions of this representation? How do Ukrainians think about their past in the light of the present? In what sense have European states, especially Germany, reassess

Prince Philip + religion, with Malaika Vaz and Martin Palmer

“I was just wondering what it was like working with Prince Philip on environmental issues? Because from what I know - and this is a bit controversial - he had some very apparent contradictions in his love for conservation. For example, the year that he became the president of WWF was the same year that he was in Ranthambore, a forest that I love so deeply, hunting an eight foot tiger with local Rajasthani maharajas. How did those things balance out?”
What do a 24 year-old filmmaker from India and a 67 year-old British theologian who worked closely with the late Prince Philip think is the best way to save the planet? In this episode of Forces of Nature. Martin Palmer and Malaika Vaz sit down for a debate about HRH The Duke of Edinburgh’s approach to conservation, hunting and the role of religion in protecting the environment.

Michael Ogden and Peter Dean interview creative entrepreneurs who share the stories behind their crowdfunding success and talk about what they learned along the way using platforms like Kickstarter and Indiegogo

Creating crowdfunding magnetism! Product designer raises over $400,000 on Kickstarter AND Indiegogo

Sometimes a product comes along that you know you don’t exactly need, but the way it’s made and the skill with which it’s presented makes you buy it all the same. That might go some way towards explaining what happened with the Kickstarter campaign run by our guest on Crowd Scene today.

Noam Bar Yohai – a London-based product designer – created a set of refillable, magnetic felt-tip pens and made such a fun campaign video that it made his product irresistible to thousands of people.

Noam set a goal of £7,000 in order to bring his product – called Magnetips – to life. After five weeks on Kickstarter the total amount raised stood at a whopping £260,000. He then took the project to Indiegogo and carried on raising money there, this time in US dollars.

In total, his crowdfunding efforts for this one simple product have brought in an impressive $425
