Vicki Robin: Financial Independence After 70 [GREATEST HITS WEEK]
We delve into the world of Financial Independence (FI) with a pioneer -- Vicki Robin, the co-author of Your Money or Your Life.
In the 1970s, Vicki Robin and Joe Dominguez, from vastly different backgrounds, came together over a shared vision: FI as a life philosophy, not just a savings strategy. Their book, "Your Money or Your Life," which sold more than one million copies, outlined a three-dimensional approach to FI:
Financial Intelligence: Thinking clearly and objectively about money.
Financial Integrity: Aligning your spending and earning with your values.
Financial Independence: Breaking free from paycheck dependence and limiting beliefs about money.
In this podcast episode, Vicki will discuss a new dimension she's added:
Financial Interdependence: Recognizing the importance of giving and receiving within our communities and the world.

Genocide in Gaza Supported by Venture Capital’s AI Military Tech – William Hartung
The Israeli attack on a civilian aid convoy, which killed seven World Central Kitchen workers, has pushed U.S. officials to entertain policy alternatives to unconditional aid to Israel. Bill Hartung, national security and U.S. foreign policy analyst at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, discusses the Biden administration's weapons sales to Israel, many of which have not been reported to U.S. Congress. Hartung addresses the role of venture capital firms in shaping the U.S. defense industry, firms which advocate the development of dual-use technology or artificial intelligence as optimized tools to wage warfare.

She largely argues that when we try to understand something complex, like the brain, using models, and math, and analogies, for example - we should keep in mind these are all ways of simplifying and abstracting away details to give us something we actually can understand. And, when we do science, every tool we use and perspective we bring, every way we try to attack a problem, these are all both necessary to do the science and limit the interpretation we can claim from our results. Nudges in the Night
Lawmakers, industry players and parents are making moves to keep kids safe online, but their approaches vary widely. A bipartisan bill in the U.S. Senate is intended to shield children by requiring social media platforms to turn off addictive product features, and require companies to minimize mental health risks. New York state proposed restricting what it called “unhealthy social media usage” by prohibiting minors from accessing addictive feeds without parental consent. In the name of parental rights, Florida legislators considered sometimes competing bills to either ban those younger than 16 from social media altogether or require platforms to perform age verification of their users. For their part, platform companies have worked to pre-empt government regulation by introducing safeguards in their software to limit what kids can do online, and with whom. The question of who should regulate access to social media — government, industry or parents — is th

Hope and the Second United Front in Wuhan
For ten months in 1938, Hankou in Wuhan was the center of China's Second United Front and defense against the Japanese invasion.Artistic expression, political parties and free speech all blossomed. Neither the KMT nor the Communist Party fully controlled the city and a variety of generals, thinkers and artists came together to defend against Japanese aggression. Wuhan was under the control of Generals Li Zongren and Bai Zhongxi, heroes of the Chinese victory at Taierzhuang. There was optimism that the Japanese could be stalled and stopped. Robert Capra came to Wuhan to film the heroic defence. Dr. Norman Bethune brought medical care to the Eighth Route Army. W. H. Auden and Christopher Isherwood visited and wrote a book about the war zone. General Han Fuju was executed for giving up Shandong without a fight. But the Chinese underestimated Japanese combined arms and amphibious attacks. The forts they built to defend ag

Tuesday of the Second Week of Lent - True Greatness
“The greatest among you must be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” Matthew 23:11–12Do you want to be truly great? Do you want your life to truly make a difference in the lives of others? Deep down this desire for greatness is placed within us by our Lord, and it will never go away. Even those who live eternally in hell will hold on to this innate desire, which for them will be the cause of eternal pain, since that desire will never be fulfilled. And sometimes it’s useful to ponder that reality as a motivation to make sure that this is not the fate we encounter. In today’s Gospel, Jesus gives us one of the keys to greatness. “The greatest among you must be your servant.” Being a servant means that you put others before yourself. You elevate their needs rather than trying to get them to be attentive to your needs. And this is difficult to do.It’s very easy in lif

Need an online suicide loss support group?
Are you looking for an online Suicide loss support group?
We all know how heartbreaking this kind of loss is, and how we tend to isolate ourselves because we believe nobody will either listen to us or understand what we're going through.
That’s when a support group can be a source of comfort, familiarity, and compassion, no matter where you are in your grief journey. And you might just find some peace in knowing you're not alone.
So why not give it a try? You never know how much it could help until you take that first step. The one thing I can guarantee you is that I will offer a warm, safe, and nurturing space, as provided here on my podcast.
The group meets every second Tuesday of the month, on Zoom. Join the March meeting, February is full. We have a limit of 12 participants.

Far in the distance, three colossal shapes tower over the desert horizon…
In this episode, we travel to the Nile Valley, and tell the story of one of the most iconic cultures ever produced by humankind – the civilizations of ancient Egypt. I want to show how this series of related cultures grew up in the floodplains of their great river, and built some of the most enduring and recognizable structures in the world. And I want to tell the story of what happened to bring the age of the Pharaohs finally and cataclysmically to an end.

Dealing with Pastoral Stress
Pastors are surrounded by stress-inducing circumstances. Whether it be the uncivil culture in which we minister, family burdens, financial pressure, dealing with problems in the church, or any number of other factors, stress is a daily reality for pastors.
But if stress is a daily realty for pastors, the availability of God’s grace is too. Jesus told us, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)
In this new episode of the Spiritual Leadership Podcast, I share eight practical ways to appropriate God’s grace in dealing with pastoral stress. Whether you are a pastor or serve in ministry in any capacity, I pray this episode will be a help and an encouragement to you.

Ep. 34: From the Bahamas to Small Town Arkansas: Lamar Taylor Challenges D2 Swimming Misconceptions
When I mention I had a swimmer on my podcast who is a 19.04 in the 50 Free, a 42.30 in the 100, and a 45.95 in the 100 back, one might assume he's swimming for one of the blue bloods in the sport, Cal, Texas, NC State? Nope. Lamar Taylor swims Division 2 for Henderson State.
To understand how a guy from the Bahamas ended up at Henderson State and managed to post top-tier times across all of Collegiate Swimming, I invited Henderson State Senior Lamar Taylor on for an episode of the Last One Fast One Podcast.
