Balancing the Individualistic and Collectivistic Cultures (First Gen Edition).

This week Estrellita will be sharing consejitos on how she balances the Individualistic culture of Higher Education while coming from a Collectivistic Latinx background. The short answer, it is not easy and can feel extremely overwhelming at times. However, it is possible and it's important to remember that the individualistic culture of being a grad student is not going to last forever. It is temporary, pero la familia and your personal growth that can also help them grow, that is long term. And having that self awareness is important because the individualistic side of academia can get messy, but it is possible to set those boundaries and say no when needed.
