Scratches the Western Itch

Just about what you’d expect from a modern western. Pretty good. Samurai Chanbara are still always better though. And there are thousands of ‘em (if you don’t mind reading subtitles).

The Old Way

Certainly not one of Nicks better movies. If fact I am looking for a way to delete it from my library.

Best western ever made

Best actor ever in the world just broke the genre. Never again will a western be as great as this one folks. Nick Cage fellow patrons of the fine arts.

Simplistic and predictable

Character development is weak and contrived Acting is sub par with a couple of decent monologues. All characters, with the exception of Cage’s nemesis are wildly inconsistent. Even supporting actors were inconsistent from a weak stupid sidekick in one scene to a “if you see him, put a bullet in him” tough guys in the next. The main characters were supposed to be emotionless however varied throughout the movie based on the scenes from cold hearted emotionless to emotional wrecks. The only interesting part was the end with the twist on the money for the Marshall and the daughter of Cage. But even that was a borrowed trope. Watch Shane instead. Glad it was just a rental.

The Old Way

FANTASTIC Movie If you like westerns this is the movie to see! Nicolas was at his best. Every actor delivered their part with perfection. I wish this movie was one hour longer and room for a sequel.
