Mentally Al
Mentally Al is an intimate portrait of cult comedy legend Al Lubel, a former Star Search champion whose appeared many times on the likes of Carson, Leno, and Letterman. He is now in his 60s, perpetually broke, couch surfing in friends apartments, and struggling for stage time. A true enigma of the standup comedy world, Al is considered by many to be the greatest and most influential comic you’ve never heard of.

Very well done. Such a well told story. The mother story line is quite sad. Defineilty want to know where the father was. That’s the missing link. Not a knock on the film, but clearly a hole in his heart. I recommend watching the film.

Al is a total underrated gem of a comic and I'm so happy he's getting some shine here in this very well crafted doc. Must see for comedy fans, those who appreciate a good oddball character, or both. Go Al!

Much like the subject of this expertly crafted documentary, "Mentally Al" is both funny and brilliant. It explores the inroads to fame, humor, depression, and survival through the life of one man who is a master of all four. Never without a funny joke, an insightful interview, or a poignant moment of humanity, "Mentally Al" will introduce you to someone you've never met, never heard of, but have always known.
