Hellboy

Director: Neil Marshall
Release Date:

Hellboy is back, and he’s on fire. From the pages of Mike Mignola’s seminal work, this action-packed story sees the legendary half-demon (David Harbour) called to the English countryside to battle a trio of rampaging giants. There he discovers The Blood Queen, Nimue (Milla Jovovich), a resurrected ancient sorceress thirsting to avenge a past betrayal. Suddenly caught in a clash between the supernatural and the human, Hellboy is now hell-bent on stopping Nimue without triggering the end of the world.

Didn’t care for it but...

I am one of “those people” that didn’t read the comics, which I am told this film stuck more closely to. I am a fan of Del Toro’s films and went into this with an open mind knowing this was going to be different. Parts of the story seemed to be forced, but I did enjoy the last half of the film in terms of the story. The previous films are definitely more family friendly-ish versus the darkness and gore of this film. I did enjoy it, but at the same time I didn’t care for it. I would certainly recommend it to those that are familiar with the original works behind the comics.

Hellboy

It's bad... It's insultingly bad. They should have just made a third movie and finished the trilogy that del Toro wanted. The writing is bad, the cinematography is bad, the performances are bad, the CG - bad, the soundtrack doesn't match at all - bad, the editing is something out of a drug addicts nightmare fuel - bad, the gore is also insulting... it doesn't need to be that gory, it's not funny, and there's no heart. It's disappointing to anyone who liked the other two movies and people with functioning brains. Never watch this movie. Never again.

Horrible

Filled with unnecessary strong language, violence, and gore, this reboot is nothing but a complete diss to Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy films.

Darker, gory, and like the comic book.

I genuinely liked this movie! The prosthetics on Hellboy was a little rough. Felt like something was wrong with his mouth. Other than that I liked it! Hope they’re able to make a second movie!

Decide for yourself

This movie is faithful to the comics. I thoroughly enjoyed it for what it was, a Hellboy not watered down for hollywood consumption. I have seen it 3 times already and you bet your behind i’ll own it on blu ray. Personally, I think it received a lot of bad press due to Del Toro’s lack of involvement. This is not his Hellboy. This IS Hellboy!
