I love this movie for many reasons; but I have to say, the main reason is because Japan let’s us catch a glimpse into their mysterious culture of the present. We just don’t know enough about contemporary Japan, they keep everything so close to their vest. Im forever fascinated whenever I get to have a look inside their lives, architecture, food, social mannerisms. It’s probably why I love studio ghibli movies so much as well. A Japanese actor who loves a red SAAB, is just one of the many surprises in this movie. It’s so touching.

This movie touched me deeper than any other movie I have seen in my 55 years. I’ve read some of Murakami’s work and enjoyed it but never to the level I appreciated this film. I found myself emotional and crying at moments that were simultaneously beautiful and tragic. I can’t imagine ever being so moved by a piece of art again.

I enjoyed this different nuance of drama. The director gave a lot of space to develop the characters. The ending wasn’t the best but it was a good movie.
