Based on the best-selling young adult novel by Lois Duncan of I Know What You Did Last Summer fame, Wes Craven’s SUMMER OF FEAR tells the tale of plucky teenaged equestrian Rachel (Linda Blair) whose life is turned dangerously upside down when Rachel's mysterious cousin Julia (Lee Purcell) moves in following the death of her parents in a car crash. Julia quickly enchants everyone in the family except Rachel, who knows her cousin is up to something creepy…witchcraft!
Terrifying adaptation of Lois Duncan’s novel! @ES the horror fan
I saw this movie on YouTube and it’s a great horror movie! Fans of Lois Duncan, the master of terror who wrote the book I Know What You Did Last Summer, will love this movie if they have read the book! As a fan of Lois Duncan’s books, I read Summer of Fear and I liked it a lot, which made me eager to see this movie, especially since I also enjoy some of the horror movies directed by Wes Craven! As the other reviewer stated, it’s a slow burn, but it’s creepy and suspenseful with every passing minute! The only special effects are near the end of the movie, but this works in favor of the story. Linda Blair is excellent in her portrayal of Rachel, the film’s heroine! The climax is a bit of a departure from the book, but this also works in favor of the movie! Fans of Lois Duncan who are looking for great horror movies based on her books should give this made-for-TV screamer a try!
