Seedship is better in my opinion, there's just too much randomness in this game that negatively impacts you. In Seedship you take some hits and still complete the objective, here you take a hit and you deteriorate rapidly.

I wonder if the dev started with just the key words, and only near the added all the flavor text. I mean, I know that I, too, would just devolve to clicking the key words and mostly skipping the text, but I'm not sure if the flavor text could be reworked to give you more of a sense of what or who and which ability would be tested for each choice. (Which would take wayyy to much dev time, so can't be done.)
So if you paid more attention to the fuel and didn't have to lose some people that way, I think you probably could have gotten very close to winning by the 20 turn limit.
