All right. I see a LOT of people taking into account the first game and comparing it to this. A frequent complaint is of the 3d graphics shift from the 2d graphics in the original.
Well, personally, when I played Battleheart Legacy, I played it without any knowledge of a first game... and I loved it. It's the most amazing game I've ever played on iOS, and the most amazing game I've played in a long time at all. I literally could not put it down for hours. On average, I'd play 5 hours straight per session. In no time, I'd beaten the game at about over 20-something, and I was so sad because it was over.
The 3d graphics are hella charming. The soundtrack gives you a feel that's already nostalgic even though you're not missing the game yet. The combat system is so immersive and delightfully fluid you can't get tired of it. Skills are almost countless, and the combinations you can create when mixing and matching are literally near to endless. You can share your builds with others, and continue to level up your hero however much you want. New Game + allows you to restart with your skills so that you can further your builds on different paths, or replay the story again with advanced knowledge and expertise. The locations? There are so many of them. Many dungeons to complete. Many bosses to fight -- all of them challenges.
Battleheart Legacy is literally a legacy to create... and a totally underrated game, in my opinion. I know that whenever I'll think of a good iOS game, it'll be Battleheart Legacy.
For a mobile game, this is magnificent. For a game... this is magnificent.
So then, when I discovered there was a first game, I wanted to play it too, hoping I would get the same experience I did. I played Battleheart. Did not like it as much on the first play session AT ALL. Felt like a downgrade. Liked the individuality of the protagonist in Legacy, whereas you moved and fought as a party in the original. It's really what you expect that makes your experience lesser, I guess, or rather, whatever experience you've already had that makes it incomparable to any you want to have in the future.
I hope one day there will be a mobile RPG out there that can be on par with Battleheart Legacy...

I adored the hell out of the first game, it had solid art and alot of polish. most of all it had soul. This sequel doesnt really work for me, I loved the old character arts and the way you could make a party and then work on strategical stuff. this game just feels like an unpolished Diablo-esque game.

It's also nice that they include iCloud to transfer saved files. Sooooooooooooo many games on the iPhone lack that, they always want you to sign into Facebook or make an account on a random website instead.

It looks pretty alright. So many games on mobile call themselves "rpg" even though they have absolutely NO rpg elements in them at all but for once, this game looks like it does have elements of an ACTUAL rpg like walking around town talking to npc's for one.
